Farmer Open Days start in ACRES Munster South Connacht
The summer programme of open days for farmers in ACRES Munster South Connacht has started. Over 70 farmers attended a very successful event on Mullane’s farm near Athea, Co. Limerick. The project team led by Padraig Cronin and Eoin McCarthy explained how the new ACRES Scorecards work. Supporting Actions delivered under the Hen Harrier Project, similar to many of the NPI and Landscape Actions that will be a feature of ACRES Co-operation. Farmers got a chance to see tree planting in field corners, wild bird cover strips, ponds, engineered ditches and water supply systems.
Our next open day will be in Derrybrien in Co. Galway tomorrow evening. The first event in ACRES Breifne will be in Kinlough early next week. Other events will be held across ACRES Breifne, ACRES Leinster and ACRES Munster South Connacht for the next two months. In all approx. 60 events are planned. At these events we hope to brief farmers on how the ACRES Model will work, how fields will be scored and how farmers can apply for actions appropriate to their farm. Actions that can help achieve local objectives and deliver for our environment.
